Alan Kelly is a musical storyteller of rare skill and his big, compassionate heart shines through on his new album, Silver to Gold. I've found that there is something about Alan's voice, the sparse tangents of his lyrics and the sheer generic variety of his musical arrangements, that works beautifully as a sonic accompaniment in film, helping to shed more light to the story. Listening to Silver to Gold by itself in the dark, is a mysterious and uplifting journey all of it's own.
Alan Kelly's 'Silver To Gold' album mixes some gentle, sweet songs like title track 'Silver To Gold', 'Wolves Fly', 'The Lover' with quirky numbers like 'Bran New Car', 'Livin' In Love Town', Nu-Surf rockers like 'Freak Boy', the country-tinged 'Ain't Gonna Work' and a foot-stomping version of the trad. Irish classic 'The Star Of The County Down'. All in all a real musical potpourri from a very talented coast musician. As fresh as the sea breeze!

What utter bliss to receive an album this intelligent, well crafted and fresh. Award-winning songwriter Alan Kelly has also proved his worth as a producer with his new original album 'Silver to Gold'. The title track, along with songs like 'Life's Full Throttle' and 'The Lover' carve a contemporary edge likened to the work of 'Mumford & Sons' but with a saltier flavour. Superbly crafted, these songs cradle the diversity of Kelly's approach and originality, rollicking the listener along without missing a beat…before you know it time to press play again…and again…and again.
This Irish man and his ensemble are riddled with charisma on stage and, I'm thrilled to say, as dynamic and exciting on this recording.
